It can be difficult getting started with weight loss - it’s not the easiest thing in the world. One obstacle is there are so many options out there that it can troublesome deciding which direction to choose. It can be challenging both physically and psychologically.
Best place to start? By deciding exactly what you desire.
Starting out, you’re going to have a thousand different things to think about all at once. Clear out all of these thoughts and focus on asking yourself what you really want to achieve.
Do you have only a vague idea of what you want? This can hamper your first step in setting some realistic goals. For example, you want to lose weight but how much? Be specific such as “I want to lose 30 pounds”. Or, “I want to trim 2 inches from my waistline”.
In order to determine how effective the methods you use are and for an easy way to measure your progress, your goals need to include numbers.
It is helpful to break down your one main goal into numerous sub goals along the way. Each of the sub goals should have a set time period.
Realistic sub goals give you something to work against and you are more likely to achieve them than focusing on your one main goal. For example, if your main goal is to lose 30 pounds in six months, you may want to break this down into losing 5 pounds per month for six months.
When you do this, you are more likely to achieve that one final goal because you are less likely to procrastinate.
If your goals are not challenging enough, there could be a tendency to put them off because you know you can accomplish them easily. Therefore, an important point about goal setting is to choose challenging but, at the same time, realistic goals.
On the other hand, goals that are not realistic and impossible for you to achieve can cause you to become discouraged.
When you strike the proper balance between challenging and realistic goals, they will keep you motivated because there is a rewarding sense of achievement when you accomplish them.
All said and done, by setting up goals the way we have described, you are more likely to win the weight loss battle!
