How To Keep Your Skin Looking Youthful

As each of us gradually becomes older we start to notice those who keep healthy looking, radiant skin, and those unfortunate among us who do not. This eventually leads to specific key inquiries into the exact cause of aging skin and how to delay it from happening. Many variables may play a role in aging skin: a poor dietary habit, a smoking habit, lack of exercise. The list that research continues to build on just keeps growing.

The truly unfortunate part of this whole dialogue is that there’s a big genetic component to skin’s resistance to aging. Your genes do manage to play a part in the basic composition of your skin, and how much it’s able to maintain its tautness and fend itself from the destructive effects of things like reactive oxygen species, ultraviolet radiation, and advanced glycation end products (AGEs). The good news is that science is demonstrating through the field of epigenetics that the way in which your genes are expressed can be highly variable the actual sequence of the code.

What science is actually demonstrating is that you can take control. You don’t have to give up and assume that your skin is destined to follow some kind of fatalistic course. To believe otherwise is to surrender yourself to a some kind of nihilistic point of view which is counter-productive, entirely unnecessary, and demonstrably untrue.

What are the steps, you might ask, you can take to stop aging of the skin? One is to eat a daily diet high in vegetables, and very low in sugar. Some daily fruit is okay, but in excess even sugars from fruits can be detrimental. Sugar forms advanced glycation end products (AGES) which can damage DNA, and enhance or speed up aging. It is also important to get a high intake of fiber, and a mixture of vitamins and minerals. People often supplement with vitamin pills, because it can be difficult to cover all of the bases otherwise.

Exercise is perhaps the singular greatest step an individual can take to slow down the aging process. Exercise enables your body to adapt to physical stress in a controlled environment, and can enable your body to become more resistant to other stresses. Greater volumes of muscle mass has in fact also been correlated with surprising things like a reduced risk of cancer. A combination of weight training and cardiovascular exercise like running on the treadmill are two great suggestions for success.

If you find it’s difficult to maintain a fitness schedule you might think of getting a fitness partner, or scheduling yourself to get some personal training. Having a professional trainer, or partner, can assist you in staying suitably motivated and guarantee that you don’t become confounded by the minutia of getting a good workout.

Are Organic Fish And Meats Truly As Good As Claimed?

Organic should mean organic right? Well theoretically yet, but there seems to be major discrepancies on the labels of supposed organic meat.

The whole point of organic produce is that you are eating natural food as nature intended; no additives or pesticides and farmed by trainer farmers who know their stuff. You should be able to buy this and feed it to your loved ones with a completely clear conscience.

Although there are no complaints about how organic vegetables are grown and harvested, the meat side of it is decidedly dodgy.

One of the greyest areas concerns wild fish. If it is wild, the USDA says you can sell it as organic, yet there is still a very high chance that it may contain mercury and other chemicals.

Surely, if an animal is farmed to produce organic meat, there should be some kind of guidelines regarding the conditions the animals live in and their general welfare.

Yes, we all grateful that the guidelines for their feed is so strict. It is very reassuring that we aren’t consuming their antibiotics, or hormones etc but I personally want to know about their living conditions.

So what can we, as the consumers, do about it? Well overall, organic is a better choice than non organic. There are better options however. You can look for meat that has labels on saying it has been approved by the RSPCA and other such bodies which have thoroughly checked out the welfare of the animals prior to slaughter.

The authorities have been tip-toeing around these issues long enough, we as consumers have the right to get them addressed immediately. The areas such as the fish, living conditions and welfare need strict guideline putting in place. Secondly, we also have a right to know that organic means organic, and not some authoritative representation of it.

The Health Effect of Foods With Carbohydrates With Respect To Our Bodies

A good weight loss program should always include the totting up of how many carbohydrates you consume in one day. You’re taking in carbohydrates, or carbs as they’re often referred to, when you eat food such as candy, fruit, jelly, cakes and honey.

The sugars and starch in these foods are broken down in your body and transformed into glucose. Your brain and muscles rely on glucose as a kind of fuel that keeps them working at peak performance.

The glucose that isn’t used up as energy is changed into glycogen that is kept in your body as a reserve of energy. It’s stored in your muscles and liver.

About half of the daily energy requirements of your body can be stored as glycogen in this way. But if you’re eating more carbohydrates than your ’spare tank’ can hold, the excess will be turned into fat, which is exactly what you want to avoid if you’re trying to lose weight.

Carbohydrates can be either ’simple’ and ‘complex’ and it’s useful to know the difference.

Very sweet foods such as cookies, sugar, fruit, candy and honey are known as simple carbohydrates. This is because the energy they provide is passed almost instantly into the bloodstream to give our muscles their power.

Complex carbohydrates are provided by vegetables and grains, such as rice or wheat. More nutritious than simple carbs because they furnish our bodies with necessary vitamins, minerals and fiber, they also have the advantage of releasing energy into the bloodstream more slowly.

It’s advisable to try not to eat too many carbs in one go, as this overloads the system, but eat small portions frequently in the course of the day. This allows you to cover your energy needs without inducing your body to store fat.

Too few carbs in your diet will make you feel as if your energy levels are at rock bottom. To stay healthy and active you need to keep a certain amount of energy available in your body.

But if you reduce your intake of carbs in a controlled way and stay active, your body will draw on its store of fat as a power source and you’ll start losing weight!

How Fruits Are Just As Enjoyable As Chocolates

I’ve just been informed by my boyfriend that he and his mother are going to Weight Watchers, which would be great news if they hadn’t been several times previously and can never follow it through.

Being a supportive girlfriend. I offered to rid their home of all their junk food, but I wasn’t prepared for the vast amount there was of it! I threw a lot in the trash but took the best stuff home with me, being underweight I’m lucky that I can eat this junk

I really want them to succeed so offered to help them decide on what they were going to buy to have as snacks. I knew my boyfriend would be open to any suggestions but his mother is notoriously picky, but without any problems or arguments they both happily agreed to have fruit.

Fruits are the perfect snack. They can easily be popped in your bag and when you get that mid morning or afternoon yearning for something sweet. Reach for them instead of the bars of food. Junk food is just another way of describing convenience foods, so make your fruit as convenient by always having some with you.

A good tip to make sure that you eat plenty is to keep a bowl in a prominent place near a door so you will always see it on your way out and grab some.

Fruit can go off quickly, especially in hot weather. I counteracted this by always having a supply of frozen and dried fruits, as well as frozen juice.

So if you want to look and feel great, do as my boyfriend and his mom have done, replace the cupboards full of candy with bowls of fruit.

Getting out of the habit of eating candy will be tough at first but you will soon start to feel the difference in yourself that plenty of fresh fruit brings.

The Basic Truth When It Comes To Weight Loss

It’s a funny thing about weight loss. You see all of these new gurus proclaiming new strategies and systems every year. Some of them are based on new theories about how the body works.

Some of them are even said to trick the body into thinking it’s doing something that it’s not, thereby affecting your metabolism and other factors.

Whether these things actually work or not isn’t even the point. Some of them will, and others won’t, but it shouldn’t have to be so complicated.

What I find interesting is the fact that everyone out there is looking for some kind of a shortcut. Some easy or fast weigh to lose weight.

There’s one surefire way to burn fat and lose weight, and I find it funny that so few people choose to stick to the basics, instead opting for complicated plans that make things much harder than they need to be. If you eat less calories than you burn, you’ll experience weight loss.

What does this mean in the most basic of terms? Well, burn more calories than you eat, and you’ll lose weight. I can’t understand why so many people have to complicate such a simple concept.

Stop eating so much and your body will stop storing the excess energy you’re consuming. Cut down on snacks, candies, and other junk food that isn’t nutritionally beneficial to you. The more of these things you have, the longer it will take for you to lose the weight you want to lose.

The second key to the equation here is exercising as much as possible. Work your body out, as this burns even more calories in the process.

The key to this all is doing it on a daily basis without fail. Live by these rules and you’ll be thrilled with your results.

A Detailed Cheat Your Way Thin Review

January 4, 2010 by Jeremy Sampson

People seem to have a hard time understanding how this diet works, so I’ve written a quick Cheat Your Way Thin review that might lend some insight into the situation. Pay close attention and you’ll have a better understanding by the end.

First of all, you should understand that Cheat Your Way Thin isn’t your typical diet plan. There are a few interesting twists that make this a very unique approach, which might be just what your body needs.

The logic behind this diet program is different from your conventional routine. It has to do with the science behind the way our body stores fat and the fact that this occurs no matter what our eating habits look like.

You might not know this, but when you go on a low-carb diet like the Atkins diet, your body still goes into panic mode by storing some fat to compensate for the lack of carbohydrates. As a result, you’ll have to work harder to burn those fat stores.

If we fool our bodies into thinking they’re getting that fat by mixing up our diet, this issue can be overcome. It all has to do with a chemical called Leptin that our body produces, which naturally suppresses our appetite.

If you follow the Cheat Your Way Thin plan, you’ll be putting yourself on a regular nutritional cycle where each day has you following a different strategy. There are some days with high carbs and glycemic content, and others with low quantities of each. Then there are the days where you can literally eat any of your favorite foods.

This puts your body into a state where it doesn’t think it needs to store fat. There’s more science to it all, but that explains the logic in a nutshell.

To finish off my Cheat Your Way Thin review, I’ll say that the healthy blend of science and comfort, not to mention its straightforward approach, make this product one of the best selling diet plans online.

A Look at Laser Surgery for Stretch Marks

August 28, 2009 by Maia Pells

It’s understandable why many people want to get rid of their stretch marks. Unfortunately, there are not that many options for stretch mark removal. There has been however a newly introduced revolutionary method for stretch mark removal. Now, men and women can see for themselves what laser surgery for stretch marks is all about.

What It Is

As a method for stretch mark removal, laser surgery is relatively new compared to older methods such as using creams or abdominoplasty. Practitioners of laser surgery for stretch marks claim that this new method can rejuvenate damaged skin and make it feel more elastic and look like much the same way it did before the development of stretch marks.

How It Works

As the term suggests, laser surgery for stretch marks works by applying a controlled laser light on the affected area. The laser is supposed to first break down the damaged tissues. Once they are broken down and removed, the damaged vessels are then repaired by promoting the production of collagen that will fill in the area previously occupied by the stretch marks.

Why People Love It

The good thing about laser surgery is that it is painless. Compared to abdominoplasty, it is also less expensive and does not involve a lot of life threatening risks and complications. Although laser surgery is still considered a form of cosmetic surgery, it does not involve cutting up the skin and does not result to irregularities in skin texture. It basically has no recovery period and the worst thing that can happen are the stretch marks not healing at all.

Current Status

While others are sold out with laser surgery method, there are also some who are wary about it. Since it is a new procedure, it does need to undergo more clinical studies to prove its effectiveness. As of the moment, abdominoplasty is still considered as more effective in stretch mark removal.

Critics also point out that lasers are not normally used to repair tissues. So far, laser treatments have been best known instead to simply breakdown fats or tissues.

Disadvantages

One of the major disadvantage of the laser surgery is its cost. Not many people may be able to afford the $400-$1500 fee required for every session. Depending on your condition and the expertise of your specialist, you may even need to go back for succeeding sessions that may take up to an hour or more.

Only stretch marks that are still fresh, pinking or purplish yet in color can be treated by laser surgery. Stretch marks that are already old and silvery may not be helped by laser surgery for stretch marks. Some critics even go as far as to say that laser surgery for stretch marks does not really remove the scars but only lightens the color of scars.

To be on the safe side, it is always best to discuss your options and your validity as a candidate for laser treatment with a reputable third party doctor. You might just end up wasting your money on an expensive procedure that may not give you the results that you want.
