Are Organic Fish And Meats Truly As Good As Claimed?

Organic should mean organic right? Well theoretically yet, but there seems to be major discrepancies on the labels of supposed organic meat.
The whole point of organic produce is that you are eating natural food as nature intended; no additives or pesticides and farmed by trainer farmers who know their stuff. You should be able to buy this and feed it to your loved ones with a completely clear conscience.
Although there are no complaints about how organic vegetables are grown and harvested, the meat side of it is decidedly dodgy.
One of the greyest areas concerns wild fish. If it is wild, the USDA says you can sell it as organic, yet there is still a very high chance that it may contain mercury and other chemicals.
Surely, if an animal is farmed to produce organic meat, there should be some kind of guidelines regarding the conditions the animals live in and their general welfare.
Yes, we all grateful that the guidelines for their feed is so strict. It is very reassuring that we aren’t consuming their antibiotics, or hormones etc but I personally want to know about their living conditions.
So what can we, as the consumers, do about it? Well overall, organic is a better choice than non organic. There are better options however. You can look for meat that has labels on saying it has been approved by the RSPCA and other such bodies which have thoroughly checked out the welfare of the animals prior to slaughter.
The authorities have been tip-toeing around these issues long enough, we as consumers have the right to get them addressed immediately. The areas such as the fish, living conditions and welfare need strict guideline putting in place. Secondly, we also have a right to know that organic means organic, and not some authoritative representation of it.

As a person grows older, he truly comes to appreciate the fact that time is indeed precious. Especially in a fast paced world such as ours, we can’t really afford to waste any time. This article will give you some tips to help you get more things done in shorter amounts of time. The main method here is consolidating activities and eliminating those that you don’t really need.
A big way to save time is by practicing good TV watching habits. If possible, do away with programs that you don’t really need to watch. Instead, you can use that time doing other activities that are more, productive, rewarding, and enjoyable.
However, if there are some TV shows that you simply cannot live without; a good alternative would be to DVR record them and watch them later. This way you can skip those unwanted commercials, which in turn saves you 15 minutes, just like that. This may not seem a lot, but over time, those minutes add up.
You can also save time by having an alternate activity ready in case you find yourself waiting or doing nothing for whatever reason. A clear example of this would be if you go to renew your driver’s license, and find yourself having to bear with a 2 hour wait.
Just standing or sitting there, doing nothing for the entire 2 hours would be an absolute waste of time. What you can do is bring a book that you need to study or a good read that you have always wanted to finish.
On that note, why not incorporate information gathering into your daily routine? You can catch up on the latest current events, not just by listening to the radio, but by listening to downloaded podcasts and audiobooks as well.Listening to podcasts and audiobooks while driving is no more distracting than having the radio playing. Plus, it is definitely a lot safer than keeping yourself entertained by talking to someone on the phone while driving.
These are just a few ways to help you utilize time more efficiently. Everyone has their own busy schedules, but it always helps to reflect upon our lives and examine where we can do better so as to maximize time and improve our lives overall.
Besides time management, this author also regularly blogs regarding flat panel TV stands and tv cabinet plasma.

If your child is overweight you might feel very uncomfortable about discussing the subject together. However, to avoid the onset of serious health problems, you have to take the bull by the horns. You can keep it simple by using a few methods that will help your child lose the extra weight.
The first tip I’d like to share with you is that you should set a good example. Prepare good healthy dishes for the whole family at every meal.
Everybody in the family should enjoy healthy food. Be careful not to single out one child in particular with a different meal. Make sure you have plenty of healthy snacks on hand, too. It’s best to stop stocking up on the ones that do you no good.
Next, stop using food as a kind of reward. Don’t tell them they can have a sugary treat for, say, finishing their chores. This kind of reward system has no place in a regular healthy lifestyle.
When life at home is geared around good health, you can start thinking about getting physically active outdoors. Encourage all the family to take up a sport, or go for regular walks in your neighborhood. Once again, it’s vital that you don’t just single out one child for this, it’s best that everybody is seen to be active.
You will be of the greatest help to your overweight child if you are supportive and pay attention to how he or she feels about food. If you set any weight loss targets, make sure they’re not too hard to reach. Aim for a healthier lifestyle rather than relying on the weighing scale alone.
By implementing these changes at home you’ll be helping your child lose weight and creating an environment that will prevent it ever coming back. You’ll also be doing the best you can for your child when you lead by example.
To ensure that your child beats the flab, keep providing healthy meals and ban all unhealthy food from your kitchen. And remember to encourage physical activity, it’s just as important.
It’ll take time for your child to feel the benefit of these changes but by following these guidelines you can be sure of weight loss and better weight control in the years to come.

Mediterranean Diet Shown To Protect Unborn Against Asthma. 564 words

Researchers have shown that pregnant women can dramatically impact upon the health of their unborn children by determining what sorts of foods they eat while expecting. Expectant mothers who eat a diet rich in high quality and traditional Mediterranean diet were shown to provide their unborn children with a natural remedy for asthma and allergies.
Firstly, what is the Mediterranean Diet? As the name would suggest, the Mediterranean Diet originates from the regions surrounding the Mediterranean Ocean. Typically the folk there had diets high in whole grains, nuts, seed, legumes, fresh vegetables and fruits. Unlike Western cultures, this diet does contain fats. However, these fats are mono-unsaturated and come from olive oil, nuts, seeds, and the fish that are consumed. Fish is eaten several times a week. Eggs, dairy products and poultry are eaten less frequently. Red meat is eaten infrequently. Sweets as the Western world knows them are not consumed. Red wine is also allowed in moderation in a healthy Mediterranean diet. No mention was made in the study of the pregnant women drinking alcohol. The conclusion would be that they did not.
The pregnant women in the study, who all hailed from Menorca, an island off Spain, were monitored by the quality of the Mediterranean foods that they ate. Mothers’ diets were designated as high quality, low quality, and Western diet. The study started in 1997 and followed 507 pregnant women. Their offspring were monitored until they turned 6.5 years. Although 507 mums were in the study only 468 children were eventually documented. (Some apparently were eliminated for a variety of reasons.)
The children were monitored annually until they reached the age of 6.5 years. These children were also skin tested at the end of the study, which began in 1997, for 6 common respiratory allergens. Researchers also concluded that the diets of the children once born had much less of a protective benefit than the insurance provided by their pregnant mothers’ diets.
Conversely those pregnant women who ate red meat more than 3-4 times per week actually had children with a higher risk for both the allergies and the asthma.
Researchers surmised that the protective health benefits of Mediterranean Diet for the unborn children came from 2 sources, antioxidants and omegas. Both these 2 ingredients are found in high amounts in Mediterranean cuisine. Antioxidants are beneficial in providing tissue health and omegas provide anti-inflammatory properties, especially in the airways (important in asthma).
Please note that drinking alcohol while pregnant is not recommended by medical authorities. No mention was made in the study of alcoholic intake for the pregnant women. A responsible conclusion would be that they were not consuming alcohol.
Conclusion - Following a quality Mediterranean Diet in pregnancy has been shown to significantly reduce the incidences of both allergies and asthma in the children of these mothers. Maximum protectives benefits were found in the expectant women who close followed a traditional Mediterranean diet and ate at least 3 serves of fish weekly, 8 serves of vegetables weekly, and at least 1 serve of legumes.
