How A Fad Diet Can Hurt You

A fad diet is a fashionable diet plan that promises to help you lose weight more often than not in a relatively short time. A fad diet frequently attracts a lot of media coverage, which then attracts a large number of overweight people to try it in order to get back in shape. Fad diets are often soon discredited, but they keep raising their head from time to time.
The grapefruit diet was or is an instance of a fad diet. People wanted to accept as true that you could lose weight solely by eating. The food in this case was grapefruits, but there is also a cabbage diet. The trouble with these fad diets is that their slimming effect is only short-term, because you cannot eat only cabbage or grapefruit for the rest of your life, so the weight comes back as soon as you go back to normal.
‘If you always do what you always done, you will always get what you always got’ is a true saying. But what is worse is that a lot of of these diets can be harmful to your health.
However, do not think that fad diets are a new phenomenon. Fad diets or fad treatments have an ancient history going back to fake witch doctors, medicine men and quack doctors who doubled as barbers! Fad practitioners have a prolonged and disreputable history and they are still alive and doing very well, thank you very much, today.
These days, medicine is too tightly regulated for them, so they have turned their attention to gullible, desperate dieters. Most of those that take up a fad diet are overweight teens longing to look like their favourite film idol.
Fad diets usually concentrate on reducing or completely eliminating carbohydrates. It is the low intake of carbohydrates that brings about the rapid loss of weight. In fact, this quick loss is due to the quick loss of water that these low-carb diets stimulate. Much of the fat might still be there, so that when you stop the diet, your body re-absorbs its normal amount of water and the lost weight is put back on just as fast as it was discarded.
In the normal course of events, carbohydrates are the source of energy for work and exercise, but with these fad diets, the carbs are no longer there, so the body begins to break down its store of fat. This may appear advantageous but it is not necessarily so. The ketones resulting from the breakdown of fat are excreted via urine and often increased volumes of urine, which can result in dehydration. People with certain medical conditions have to be very careful too; diabetics, for example.
Fad diets are popular, but they can be very damaging to your body and when they do not have the desired result in the long-term, it can be very depressing leading to comfort eating. This is why many people begin a fad diet, lose weight and are radiant for a month or two, but then slip back when they are getting near to their ideal weight. They go back to their old ways and the weight begins to come back. They become depressed, convinced that they will never be able to lose weight; they comfort eat some more, maybe giving up any hope of regaining a normal weight permanently.

Tips For Getting Your Body Fit For Summer
December 21, 2011 by Byron Jonas

The end of winter is that time of the year when thousands of people dare to take more than just a peek at themselves in the mirror. It is also the time when many people realize with horror that they will not be able to wear that sexy bikini or that speedo because the legs, stomach and other bits seem to wobble and bulge. The solution lies in getting your body fit for summer.
Without the need to wear bulky, warm clothing, it would be possible again to show off a bit of leg or a good six pack. Sadly, many people realize that the ravages of winter had an impact upon their weight and their fitness. This is no reason to despair, however. The important thing is to resolve to act and to do so immediately.
The first step towards a better body is to get rid of excess weight. That said, embarking upon any form of crash diet is highly non advisable. It has been proven over and over again that any diet resulting in spectacular weight loss will inevitable fail and the chances of simply gaining the weight back is almost a given. It is much better to embark upon a sensible diet that will result in steady, sustainable loss of weight.
Getting fit physically is another important component of an overall health improvement program. Many people argue that they simply cannot afford to join a gym but this is not necessary. A program of low impact exercises can achieve wonderful results. Activities such as hiking and swimming are the ideal way in which to get fit without risking injury. People that are concerned about their health should not embark upon an exercise program before consulting with a medical practitioner.
Well defined muscles have very little to do with losing weight or by getting fit. Individuals who wish to develop specific muscle groups, such as the abs, biceps or calves need to perform exercises specially designed for the purpose. There are many authoritative sites that provide detailed instructions on how to achieve specific results for specific muscle groups. Always be careful, however, of promises that success can be achieved almost overnight.
Attractiveness has as much to do with the psychic and emotional health of individuals as with physical fitness. People who enjoy life, who are confident in themselves and who enjoy meaningful relationships are radiant and their contentedness is projected as a powerful attractiveness. Paying attention to emotional health and relationships are therefore an important part of a regime that aims toward total fitness of both body and mind.
With a holistic approach and with proper support it is certainly possible to make manageable lifestyle changes. Getting your body fit for summer should not be a yearly panic program but rather a yearlong regime that will ensure a healthy body and a healthy mind at all times. People who feel good about themselves enjoy life more and are more prone to achieve what they set out to do.

The Best Ways To Lose Weight

If you decide that you want to keep to a traditional style diet, as a rule of thumb, you ought to find a weight loss plan that is rich in fresh fruit and vegetables; low-fat dairy products; white meat and fish; whole grain cereals and plenty of drinking water and by that I mean at least eight to ten 250mm glasses a day.
Being heavy can cause a lot of other issues, in addition it being a problem in its own right. Obesity makes rapid movement, stretching and reaching difficult. Surplus sweating can be an embarrassment and it can result in chaffing. The range of fashionable clothing available can be constrained too. In addition to these problems, studies have shown that being overweight invariably leads to health problems such as hypertension, cardiac issues, sleep apnea and diabetes.
The only solution to this bundle of problems is to lose those spare pounds around your waist by starting on a healthy weight loss diet plan and following it faithfully. I will give you a few general pointers below to help you slim down and decrease the risk of spending your later years traipsing in and out of hospital.
Nearly all of the traditional weight loss diet plans proposed by dietitians and nutritionists start with the simple exhortation to reduce your food intake to the quantity you require to carry out your every day routine. The problem is that it sounds easy, but it is one of the hardest things to do. It takes a lot of willpower on your part. However, you could start by eating and drinking three-quarters of what you normally consume. Once you can handle that, reduce the percentage again.
Try to make every calorie count. By that, I mean, if you are going to eat 200 calories, make certain that they are contained in food that will do you good and keep you feeling full. A bar of chocolate will give you a blood-sugar rush for 20-30 minutes, but a doorstep of a cheese and salad sandwich made from whole wheat bread washed down with a glass or two of water will give you plenty of fibre and vitamins and fill you up for a couple of hours.
It is always a good idea to keep a journal of what you consume and when. This way you can compare days and weeks and see what works best. It also helps if you are reducing your consumption in stages. Mark what you eat with the number of calories in that portion. If you do not know accurately, guess it. Writing something down is better than nothing.
The next part is the part I don’t like - exercise. Regular exercise. The good news is that it does not have to be too much. Two thirty minute walks a day is pretty useful. Once in the morning and once in the evening. Or walk in your lunch time and after your evening meal. If you like, regular visits to the fitness center are even better, but they are also easier to skip or give up altogether.

Shimano XTR Race Disc Brake Evaluation

Together with the new racing season comes a stream of new disc brakes all fighting to get that spot on your ride, this year is no distinct.
The new Mountain bikes XTR Race disc brakes are in the leading from the overall performance ladder for 2011 Shimano brakes and are available in at a hefty 260 (although still more affordable than other high overall performance disc brakes), based about exactly the same high performance design because the trail version, the Race version comes having a slightly lighter weight because of a screwed in reservoir and little Allen reach adjuster.Slightly heavier than it really is competitors and lacking from a flip flop style the XTR seams to lag beind in writing, although the hinged bar clamp makes fitting exceptionally simple.
The short levers provide a clean and controlled braking feel with outstanding modulation which responds to the slightest change in pressure to give controllable braking. This lever is combined with an incredibly effective disc brake calliper, the XTR Race brakes offer awesome control and efficiency though they would of benefited from slightly tougher pads.
The main point which the XTR Race disc brake sets out to tackle is heat, an issue for cross nation racers everywhere. For 2011 shimano have developed a unique ICE rotor which sheds heat amazingly rapidly, which is essential for the sheer braking power from the disc brakes. This style operates exceptionally effectively even though it’s only readily available inside a centre lock design, which limits it to Shimano or DT swiss hubs.
Without the ICE rotor the XTR Race disc brakes tend to over heat on heavy braking and loose a considerable amount of power, while with the ICE disc rotors the braking is literally constant. All in all the XTR race disc brakes are a sensible cross country racing option, although if you’re going to choose them it’s best to go for the full hog and include the ICE rotor for the best braking performance, this will weigh in slightly heavier than competitors so is definitely not one for the weight whiniest.

Losing Weight Fast

Besides physical appearance, weight affects a person in various ways. It could be the overall quality of life, self-esteem, depression, health risks, and physical incapacities. There are a lot of advantages to losing weight. It is for this reason that a lot of people are searching for a weight loss technique that will trim down those excess pounds and get a beautiful, jaw-dropping body.
The first thing that an overweight person should do is find a doctor to recommend the best weight loss plan. This will only be done after a complete physical examination, which will to the determination of a proper weight loss technique. To lose excess pounds fast and permanently, four aspects of one’s life has to be altered: what to eat, how to eat, behaviour and amount of activity.
Here are quick tips that can change an over-weight persons’s life:
1: Rapid weight loss is achieved by a multi-faceted plan that comprises mindset, exercise, and, in some cases, dietary supplements. Commence by learning a diet regimen that can be easily incorporated into your current way of life. Start an exercise regimen that includes at least fifteen minutes a day brisk walking, running, swimming and/or dancing.
2: Set yourself achievable targets. The ability to focus and have a proper mindset enables someone trying to lose weight to quickly lose those extra pounds. You have to develop discipline and a proper outlook, a dieter will never become discouraged and give up.
3: Listen to what your body is saying. Each person’s body reacts differently to the various quick weight loss plans. Try substituting one program for another to assess the body’s reaction. The exercise regimen must be suited to your body, because some can not exercise as rigorously as others. If walking is all that you can do, then walk, since this is one of the best exercises. Remember that muscles burn calories so it’s definitely a good idea to put on a little more muscle - it looks sexy too.
4: Eat more fibre because it makes you feel fuller sooner and takes longer to digest, making it longer before you will be hungry again. For instance, a couple of slices of whole grain bread will stay in the body longer and put off hunger longer than white bread, which turns in to glucose more quickly. giving you a quick, sugar spike, which soon passes, making you hungry again.
5: Keep away from fried food especially deep-fried, as it contains a large amount of fat. However, although fish and chicken are considered to be leaner than beef, this white meat can contain more fat than beef when it is fried. It is recommended for those on a strict diet opt for grilled food as it does not contain much fat after the food is cooked.
6: Drink plenty of fluid. Drinking at least six to eight glasses of water a day keeps the body ‘flushing’ and since weight loss depends on how the body gets rid of bodily waste, the body must stay hydrated.
So, all in all, discipline and consistent application is still the way to rapid weight loss. Light dieting, workout, and the right amount of nutritional supplements performed in regularly everyday will result in a quicker weight loss than having a massive, but short-lived campaign that is followed by a return to the bad old habits, since this only leads to gaining more weight than before the weight loss plan was started.

Are Organic Fish And Meats Truly As Good As Claimed?
April 17, 2010 by Ellen Rigsby

Organic should mean organic right? Well theoretically yet, but there seems to be major discrepancies on the labels of supposed organic meat.
The whole point of organic produce is that you are eating natural food as nature intended; no additives or pesticides and farmed by trainer farmers who know their stuff. You should be able to buy this and feed it to your loved ones with a completely clear conscience.
Although there are no complaints about how organic vegetables are grown and harvested, the meat side of it is decidedly dodgy.
One of the greyest areas concerns wild fish. If it is wild, the USDA says you can sell it as organic, yet there is still a very high chance that it may contain mercury and other chemicals.
Surely, if an animal is farmed to produce organic meat, there should be some kind of guidelines regarding the conditions the animals live in and their general welfare.
Yes, we all grateful that the guidelines for their feed is so strict. It is very reassuring that we aren’t consuming their antibiotics, or hormones etc but I personally want to know about their living conditions.
So what can we, as the consumers, do about it? Well overall, organic is a better choice than non organic. There are better options however. You can look for meat that has labels on saying it has been approved by the RSPCA and other such bodies which have thoroughly checked out the welfare of the animals prior to slaughter.
The authorities have been tip-toeing around these issues long enough, we as consumers have the right to get them addressed immediately. The areas such as the fish, living conditions and welfare need strict guideline putting in place. Secondly, we also have a right to know that organic means organic, and not some authoritative representation of it.

A Weight Loss Plan For Teens
March 27, 2010 by Owen Jones

No one has to read a study or a report to know that there are a lot of overweight or obese people in the USA and the UK. You can blame this on the food being sold or a lack of understanding, but the real bottom line is that you are the one who is putting that stuff into your mouth.
Most people do not think about it, but everyone has a choice whether to eat decent food or not. If you are radically overweight, then you chose to allow yourself to get yourself into that state. No one else, you!
Nevertheless, there is always a way out and it is never too late. There are thousands of weight loss programs, so you should be able to find one that suits you. I made that sound easy and it should be, but people still have trouble choosing one.
My advice is to read the weight loss advert aloud to yourself or a friend. Does it sound like BS? Then it probably is. Dump it. The bottom line is that you can only lose weight by expending more energy than you consume. Having said that there are a couple of ways of achieving that.
The two basic methods are either counting calories or counting carbohydrates, that is Weight Watchers or Atkins. Start by going to their web sites and reading about their philosophies. Pick the one that suits you and stick to it.
One note that I would like to stress here for teens is that at your time of life your body is going through a radical change. You are metamorphosing from a child to an adult and your body is filling up with hormones, you only had a little of before.
Let the change finish, before you start worrying too much. You were a bug, now you are a chrysalis and soon you will be a butterfly. Just wait and your body time to sort itself out.
There really is not much you can do to stop what your body has to do. Spots mean that you have poisons in you and your body wants to get rid of them. Help it by not putting any more junk into it. Keep your skin clean and make sure that everything that touches your skin is clean too. Hands, hair, pillow cases, et cetera.
Exercise! Now is the time to embed an exercise routine into your way of life. Exercise raises your rate of metabolism which helps you burn calories more quickly. If you can burn calories quickly, then you can allow yourself more treats.
The other point about exercise is that if you do not establish a discipline for exercise when you are young, then you will find it harder when you have your next bodily change in your forties or fifties.
The bottom line is not to worry too much about what you look like now, you are a chrysalis. Help your body out by eating healthily and take up a sport you enjoy and stick to it.

Why Do Women Wear Tankinis?
August 13, 2009 by Lindy Bischoff
What do women want when purchasing their swimwear? Great fit, being the obvious choice, is the number one concern. Why would the swimsuit industry create a suit which requires a customer to buy tops and bottoms separately?
I shouldn’t have to address that here. If you are a woman that has been through the process of purchasing and fitting a swimsuit, you’ll know innately. The buying and fitting process is exasperating.
Tankinis are the only style making much sense for the women. Who after all has found the perfect one-piece suit to fit all body shapes? Not one. Might I add that no research was required of me to make that statement.
A woman may need a suit which she might wear in the privacy of her own home. Then she would have the suit she would wear at the beach in front of others. What is great about Tankinis is you can coordinate your favorite suit for all the different occasions you might need one.
You can even wear the full top with your less than full bottoms at home. Go with a longer skirt to go over top while in public, and you can change it up to add a skimpier top to the skirted bottoms for a nice change. The options are endless with tankinis.
People are turning to tankinis because they offer swimsuit solutions that were previously unavailable in any type of suit. I personally love tankinis.
The average woman is faced with choices offered by department store cookie cutter swimwear. Online finding websites with gorgeous swimsuits has never been easier. The best part of buying Tankinis is that you can do it online and still get a good fit. Therefore, your choices are massive.
By shopping online you’ll never have to hit the lines at the department store or fight the crowds. You’ll be able to shop in the comfort of your own home. Oh, and you’ll never have to face one of the ten-sided mirrors that make you wince as you see yourself. Tankinis are awesome.
